Office Interruptions

Can we please ask families to check the school website or send an email to the office if they have a query or need to pass information. The number of phone calls are having a significant impact on the working of the school office. This in turn has an impact on the children and the time the office can give to them. Thank you for your support in advance.

We continue to receive concerns from residents about the inconsiderate parking of families. The pedestrian zone in the school road is a Local Authority Scheme and is not controlled or monitored by the school. If you do have any problems please do contact the Local Authority directly.

Class Dojos

This week’s winning Dojo Classes are;

Winning KS1 Class –1M

Winning KS2 Class – 5R

We wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of the impact attendance can have on your child’s learning and to draw your attention to Woodcote’s Attendance Policy.

If your child is unwell and unable to attend school, please use the contact form on the Woodcote App, telephone 020 8668 3374, email office@woodcoteprimary.croydon.sch.uk or text via the School Gateway to report the absence before 9.00am detailing the type of illness.

You should then contact us on each day that your child is absent, even if it is within the 48-hour exclusion period for sickness or diarrhoea.

Medical appointments should be arranged outside of school hours, but where this is not possible please bring in either the appointment card or letter to confirm this. If your child is ill for a period of 5 days we will ask to see medical evidence.

In exceptional circumstances, parents/carers must complete a request for Absence from Learning form; these can be found on the Woodcote App, on our website or can be collected from the school office. We will determine the number of school days (up to a maximum of 10 school days) a child can be away from school if the leave is granted.

If your child’s attendance falls below 96%, you may be invited to a meeting with our Education Welfare Officer. If, however, it is established that the poor attendance or punctuality cannot be justified and there is not an immediate and significant improvement following the meeting then legal proceedings may be commenced.

It is important to also remember poor punctuality not only affects the education of your child but can be disruptive to the learning of others. All children should arrive on time for the register as follows:

Nursery and Reception – 9am

Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) – 8.55am

Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6) – 8.45am

We close our registers 30 minutes after they are opened and if a child arrives after this, it is marked as an unauthorised absence unless medical evidence is provided. Please be aware that a Penalty Notice could be issued after five unauthorised lates.

We hope to continue to work positively with all families to ensure that your children maintain high levels of attendance and punctuality throughout the year ahead. Each term we celebrate all children who have achieved 100% attendance in assembly with badges as well as monthly celebrations of the classes with the best overall attendance and punctuality.

What is a Race Night?

It’s a fun social evening which involves light-hearted low risk betting on horse races, with some booze, food and extra games thrown in.

What do I get for my £5 entry?

A delicious slice of Papa John’s Pizza and 1 free bet. And a good night.

Can I buy food and drink on the night?

Yes! We will have more pizza to buy at £1 a slice and a well-stocked bar at reasonable prices.

Do I need to be able to ride a horse?

No, there are no real horses. The races are pre-recorded and will be shown on a big screen.

How many horses per race?

There will be 8 horses per race and you can bet on one or more of them

How much is a bet?

£1 per bet per horse. There is no obligation to bet each round but you can bet on more than one horse at a time.

How do I win?

If your horse wins the race you will receive a proportion of the total takings. The fewer people who bet on the winner the more money you get!

How many races?

We are aiming for 6 races but we will have more if things move quickly!

Why come?

It’ll be fun and social!

It’s good value for money!

We will raise funds for the school!

Do I need to wear a hat?

If you want to, there is no obligation however.
