Home Education and Homework

This week children in years 1 to 6 should have brought home a series of logins, and particularly the login for Google Classroom. From Monday 28th September we will be placing the learning activities that are taking in place in class on Google Classroom AND the weekly homework (apologies for the error on the previous email which stated Class Dojo).

Some parents have asked for some further guidance on accessing Google Classroom.

Please find attached documents with screen shots and instructions which we have put together this afternoon as we have logged some of the pupils into their classrooms.

It may be that there are slight differences between devices but we hope that this will help as it is a guide created from logging our own pupils into their Woodcote classrooms.

We want to be able to support our families with Home Education in the case of class/bubble closures. So we ask that families take 5 minutes to complete this survey to inform our practices; https://forms.gle/XFNTnDcXkwQr2gKa8

Extra-Curricular Clubs

I am delighted to announce the Extra-Curricular Club timetable for the Autumn 2020 term.  Sadly, due to current restrictions, the assortment of clubs available is much reduced this term.  I can confirm that external club providers will be complying with our hygiene and social distancing guidelines, including maintaining year group bubbles wherever possible.   Details of all the clubs and how to apply are available on the School website:

I do hope your child finds something they can enjoy participating in and I look forward to a time when we can once again increase the variety of extra-curricular clubs offered by the school.

Reverse Parents Evening

Thank you for the understanding and feedback on the virtual reverse parents evening. We are aware a few families had some technical issues, but overall the feedback has been extremely positive from parents and staff. Many families liked the opportunity to talk to the teachers and also that it was more convenient to do 10 minutes from home.

ClassDojo Messages

Can we please remind parents not to message staff on ClassDojo. We ask that you email members of staff directly or through the school office. This way staff have one place to check and respond to messages and can ensure things are not missed.

Positive Case at Woodcote High School

Please find attached a letter that was sent about a member of staff testing positive at the high school. No closure was made as the member of staff had not been in school since last week.

Year Group Book Lists

Attached are the year group book lists that we launched last year. These are 10 books we recommend children read in each year group. If your child reads one of these books please sign and date it. When they have read all 10 books they will receive a bookworm badge. Children will only receive bookworm badges for their own year group book list, but please do feel free to encourage your children to read books from other lists or by the same or other authors.

Parking and consideration for our local community

I am sorry to have to write again about inconsiderate parking on the side roads and main road which are making it dangerous for children, and making it difficult to social distance. We also continue to have rubbish left by some families, including discarded masks. Today I found one on the school site.  Please be considerate of others and be good role models for yours and others children.

IT/Website /Graphics help required!

In the coming year we will be losing some of our more techie committee members and we would welcome anyone who would be interested in assisting in managing our website, helping with the school app etc. We also welcome those with graphic design skills for the yearbook (Adobe Indesign) and for posters. Many hands make light work! If you’re able to spare some time and help, let us know via volunteer@woodcoteptfa.org.uk

Fair or no Fair we still plan to hold a Christmas Raffle. As always we need some STAR PRIZES to boost ticket sales, so if you have anything you can offer or know of businesses willing to sponsor all or part of a star prize we can offer lots of promotion in return. Let us know using admin@woodcoteptfa.org.uk

Communication about your child

Please can you include your child’s full name and year group/class in all correspondence with the school as this supports the admin team in dealing with all issues promptly. There are a large number of children and with the increase in need to communicate by email, it would be really helpful if you could do this.

When you are reporting absence, you are required to give us a full list of symptoms, not just because of COVID, as we need to record this on the child’s absence. We can not accept the child is ‘unwell’ as this then causes additional work for the admin team following up on this.

Thank you for your help with this in advance.

Possible Closure of Purley Pool

Purley pool and leisure centre has been closed during the lockdown period and it’s recently been discovered that it may now not reopen at all.

Please don’t let the council close down this valuable facility used by thousands of swimmers including our children for their school lessons and competitions, the elderly, charities, and swimmers with special needs. A campaign has been started to try to save Purley pool.  Please follow the link and sign the petition, it’s very quick.

Please forward this link to others who may wish to help keep the pool open.
